What do I do if I've ordered PeoplePC Internet Security Pack software and haven't received it in the mail yet?
If you've requested a PeoplePC Internet Security Pack software disc more than 7 business days ago and you haven't received it yet, request another disc, or contact customer support at 1-866-PPC-MBRS.

You can also download the Internet Security Pack software. Please note, however, the software is a large file and could take up to an hour to download over a 56k modem. We strongly recommend you wait until you receive the software in the mail.

I am getting an error message that says "Your Computer might be at risk, Authentium Antivirus might be out of date, click this balloon to fix the problem", what do I do?
DO NOT click on this window/ balloon. This warning will appear every time new virus definitions are available to download to your computer. When your software is finished installing the latest virus definition updates, this window will disappear.

My computer seems to be stuck on a screen that says Automatic Updates, what do I do?
DO NOT click on the "Close" button. This window will appear the first time you log in after installing your Internet Security Pack, as well as when updated virus definitions are available for download.

  • This will take approximately 15 minutes.
  • When the installation is finished, the window will disappear and your Internet Security Center will open on your desktop.
  • I am getting a Firewall warning message. Is my computer safe?
DO click on either the "Block" or "Allow" button. Your Internet Security Pack Firewall is working, and has detected a program that's trying to access the Internet, like Internet Explorer. It's asking you if you'd like to proceed with the connection.
    Quick Tips:

  • If you are unaware of any application that should be accessing the Internet, you may want to click "Block."
  • If it's a program you recognize, click "Allow." You can also check the "Apply Every Time" box if it's a program you use often.

  • NOTE: If you don't click on either button, your Firewall will automatically block the program or application.

Do I need to install the Internet Security Pack Software on every profile (user) on my computer?
If you have a computer that is configured with multiple Windows profiles and you apply the Internet Security Pack software to only one user, the update is not applied when other users log-on to the same computer. You will need to install the security software on each profile you have on your computer, but you do not need to purchase multiple software. Simply use your same PeoplePC Member name and password for each installation.

I don't have Windows XP (Service Pack 2) or Windows Vista 32-bit on my computer. How can I benefit by upgrading to PeoplePC Internet Security Pack?

You will also have access to the PeoplePal toolbar and Scam Guard which alerts you to malicious web sites looking to steal your personal information.

I'm not sure if I have Windows XP (Service Pack 2) or Windows Vista 32-bit on my computer or not. How can I find out?

I tried to download the software but it didn't finish. What should I do?
Downloading the software over a dial-up connection can be time consuming. PeoplePC recommends that you click here and request a disc to be sent to you in the mail. Your disc with the Security Pack software will arrive in 5 to 7 business days.

I think the software installation is done, but I don't see a new window on my screen about the Security Software. What should I do?
Simply double click on the security shield icon to open the main window. The blue and white shield icon is found on your desk top with the title "PeoplePC Internet Security Pack".

Will I have to sign in to the security software each time I get on my computer?
Internet Security Pack will automatically launch each time you start your computer.

Where can I set my preferences and change my security levels?
Once the main window is open, click on the tab labeled "Security Summary". From there click on "Preferences", and then click on "General". Now you will see options for the types of security scans that will run and the frequency of scans. Scan frequency can be set to run daily, weekly or monthly. The easy-to-follow instructions on the screen will help you change your settings.

How do I know I have the latest virus definitions?
Internet Security Pack constantly checks to ensure your system is equipped with the most current virus definitions. When new virus definitions are identified, important software updates will be automatically downloaded and installed on your computer - so you stay safe. You can also change the frequency of system updates; see the proceeding question for information on how to change your security settings.

How often will my computer be scanned for viruses? What happens if a virus is detected?
The default setting for security scans is weekly. You can change this setting to either daily or monthly; to change your settings please see the above question and answer on setting your preferences. Internet Security Pack usually cleans any viruses found during a scan. If for some reason the file cannot be cleaned, it is identified and will appear in your "scan results". To remove this threat simply check the box next to the infected file and then click "delete selected".

Why should I uninstall the anti-virus/firewall software currently on my computer? Is the PeoplePC Security Pack software going to protect me in the same way?
Yes, your computer will have a high level of protection using PeoplePC Internet Security Pack. Depending on the software you are currently running, Internet Security Pack may provide increased protection since it includes anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, and phisher security protection.

How do I uninstall my existing anti-virus/firewall software?
If this situation applies to your computer, you will be alerted during the installation process. If you see a screen prompting you to uninstall existing software, just follow the short steps below.

Step 1 - You will see a screen alerting you that you have existing anti-virus software on your computer. Please make a note of the name of your anti-virus program and write this information down (you will need it later). The most common names of anti-virus software start with "Norton", "McAfee", or "Symantec".

Step 2 - Select the button that says "uninstall" and then click continue.

Step 3 - In the next window scroll down and find the name of the program that was identified during the installation process (this is the name you wrote down earlier). Click on that program name and then click on the button that says "remove".

Step 4 - You will be asked to confirm that you want to remove this program; click on the "yes" button.

Should you require further assistance with uninstalling your existing anti-virus/firewall software, please contact the software manufacturer.

My computer says that I should close all other programs before uninstalling my existing anti-virus/firewall software, is this necessary?
Yes, you must close all other programs before uninstalling any existing software program.
