A. Check to see if the computer meets the minimum system requirements To successfully install Norton Internet Security™ Online 2007, your system must meet the following minimum requirements: Basic requirements for Windows XP: Windows® XP Home Edition or Professional Edition 300-MHz or faster processor 256 MB of RAM 350 MB of hard disk space Basic requirements for Windows Vista: 1 GHz or higher processor 512 MB RAM 350 MB of available hard disk space STEP 2 Prepare your system for installation 1 Remove any other antivirus or firewall programs that are installed. To remove them, start Control Panel, and use Add or Remove programs. 2 Ensure that you are connected to the Internet. 3 Exit all open programs on your computer, except for your Web browser. STEP 3 Install and activate Norton Internet Security™ Online 1 Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive. If you downloaded your copy of Norton Internet Security™ Online , double-click the file that you downloaded. 2 In the opening panel, click Install Norton Internet Security™ Online . 3 Read the License Agreement, type your Product Key if prompted, and then click “I Agree”. If you do not accept the License Agreement, you cannot continue the installation. Note: You should have received your PIN when you signed up for your service. 4 In the Installation Options panel, review the options, and then click Next. 5 In the Pre-Install Scan panel, click Start Scan. The scan takes a few minutes. 6 In the Installation Confirmation panel, click Next. 7 In the Activation panel, wait for the progress bar to stop, and then click Next. 8 If the Norton Account panel, complete the "Sign in to an existing Norton Account" section. 9 Click Next. 10 In the Norton Internet Security™ Online Installation Complete panel, review your subscription details, and then click Finish. STEP 4 Run LiveUpdate 1 In the Welcome to LiveUpdate panel, click Next to begin checking for the latest product updates. 2 On the next LiveUpdate panel, review the list of available updates, and then click Next to download the updates. This process may take a few minutes. 3 On the final LiveUpdate panel, click Finish. A. A. Remove Norton Internet Security™ Online 2007 1 Click Start > Control Panel. 2 Click Add or Remove Programs. 3 In the list of installed programs, click Norton Internet Security™ Online (Symantec Corporation). 4 Click Remove. 5 Click Remove All. 6 Read the Subscription Period Warning. 7 Click Next, and follow the instructions. 8 In the "Norton Internet Security™ Online has been successfully removed" dialog box, click Restart Windows now (recommended). Norton Internet Security™ Online is not fully removed until you restart your computer. 9 Click Finish. STEP 2 Reinstall your Norton products from the CD mailed to you when you first signed up. If you need a replacement CD please call Customer Service at 1-866-PPC-MBRS (1-866-772-6277). 1 Insert the CD into the drive. 2 Click Install Product Name, where Product Name is the name of your Norton product. 3 Follow the on-screen instructions. Q. A. This message indicates that there was a problem with the installation. Use the Norton Removal Tool to remove the failed installation. STEP 1 Download and run the Norton Removal Tool Warning The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products from your computer. Before you continue, make sure that you have the installation CDs or downloaded installation files for any Norton products that you want to reinstall. Also, if you use ACT! or WinFAX, back up those databases and uninstall those products. 1 Download the Norton Removal Tool 2 On the Windows desktop, double-click the Norton Removal Tool icon. 3 Follow the on-screen instructions. Your computer may be restarted more than once, and you may be asked to repeat some steps after the computer restarts. STEP 2 Reinstall your Norton products from the CD mailed to you when you first signed up. Turn on Parental Control 1 Start Norton Internet Security. 2 In the Norton Internet Security window, click Parental Control. If Parental Control is not available, go to STEP 2, "Install Accounts and Parental Control." 3 Click Turn on. STEP 2 Install Accounts and Parental Control 1 Click Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. In some versions of Windows, you may have to click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. 2 Click Norton Internet Security. 3 Click Change. 4 Click Modify. 5 Under "Would you like to install Accounts and Parental Control?" click Yes. 6 Click Finish. 7 Click Finish to restart your computer. Q. A. STEP 1 To create a rule that permits referrer information 1 Start Norton Internet Security. 2 Do one of the following: Double-click Privacy Control, and then click Advanced. Click Options > Internet Security, and then click the Web Content tab. 3 At the bottom of the Advanced window, click Add Site. 4 In the New Site/Domain box, type the name of the site that you want to receive the referrer information, and click OK. The site name appears in the left frame of the Options window. 5 Click the name of the new site. 6 On the Global Settings tab, under the Information about visited sites section, uncheck Use default settings. 7 Click Permit. 8 Click OK to close the Options window. Q. A. Turn off Parental Control 1 Start Norton Internet Security. 2 In the Norton Internet Security Window, in the right pane, double-click Parental Control. 3 In the Parental Control dialog box, uncheck Turn on Parental Control. 4 Click OK. Allow access to specific Web sites Note:You must be logged on as a Supervisor or an Adult user. Adult users can only change their own account. 1 Start Norton Internet Security. 2 In the Norton Internet Security Window, in the right pane, double-click Parental Control. 3 In the Parental Control dialog box, use the Parental Control settings drop-down list to select the account that you want to change. 4 Click Sites. 5 Use the section Web site categories to block to allow access to Web sites. To allow access to all sites in a category, uncheck the box for that category and click OK. To allow access to a specific site in a category, click Exceptions and go to Line 6. 6 In the Exceptions dialog box, click Add. 7 In the Add Web site to the Exception List dialog box, type the URL of the Web site that you want to unblock. 8 Click OK. 9 Repeat lines 6, 7, and 8 for each Web site that you want to add to the exceptions list. 10 When you have finished adding sites, click OK. Q. A. This solution requires that you use Internet Explorer. If this page is open in any other Web browser, open it in Internet Explorer. Make sure that Symantec services start properly Run a tool that turns on required Symantec services. RUN IT NOW STEP 2 Log on with a Norton Internet Security Supervisor account 1 Start Norton Internet Security. 2 In the Norton Internet Security window, in the left pane, click User Accounts. 3 Look next to "You are logged on as" to see how you are logged on: If you are logged on as Supervisor and still cannot modify the settings, click "What if this didn't work?" at the bottom of this page. If you are not logged on as Supervisor, continue with the next line. 4 Click Log Off. 5 In the confirm dialog box, click Yes. 6 Click Log On. 7 In the Log on dialog box, in the Account Name list, click Supervisor. 8 In the Password field, type your password. If you have never assigned a password to the Supervisor account, leave this field blank. 9 Click OK. You should see the text "You are logged on as: Supervisor." A. STEP 1 This solution requires that you use Internet Explorer. If this page is open in any other Web browser, start Internet Explorer and open this page in it. 1 Start Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall. 2 In the left pane, click Status & Settings. 3 In the right pane, click Security. 4 Click Turn Off. STEP 2 Test your Internet connection 1 Start Internet Explorer. 2 Try to go to any Internet page. If you can connect to the Internet, go to the section "Now I can connect to the Internet." If you cannot connect to the Internet, go to the section "I still cannot connect to the Internet." Now I can connect to the Internet STEP 1 Run the Norton Connectivity Troubleshooter Run a tool to test your Internet connection. RUN IT NOW STEP 2 Turn on Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall 1 Start Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall. 2 In the left pane, click Status & Settings. 3 In the right pane, click Security. 4 Click Turn On. STEP 3 Test your Internet connection 1 Start Internet Explorer. 2 Try to go to any Internet page. If you can connect to the Internet, you have fixed your Internet connection problem. I still cannot connect to the Internet Sometimes a security risk prevents you from connecting to the Internet. To find out if your computer is risk-free, update the virus definitions and run a full system scan. STEP 1 Download the latest virus definitions on a computer that can connect to the Internet 1 Go to a computer that can connect to the Internet. 2 Download the current virus definitions. DOWNLOAD 3 Click the file that is listed under Filename. The file name starts with the year and looks similar to the following: 20060413-007-i32.exe 4 Click Save. 5 In the Save As dialog box, save the file to the desktop. 6 Click Save. 7 Copy the saved virus definitions file to removable media, such as a CD or a removable USB drive. STEP 2 Update the virus definitions on the computer that cannot connect to the Internet 1 Insert the CD, USB drive, or other removable media that you used in STEP 1 into the computer that cannot connect to the Internet. 2 Copy the virus definitions file that you saved in STEP 1 from the removable media to the desktop. 3 Double-click the virus definitions file that you copied to the desktop, and follow the on-screen instructions. STEP 3 Run a full system scan 1 Start Norton Internet Security. 2 In the left pane, click Norton AntiVirus. 3 In the right pane, click Full System Scan. 4 Click Scan Now. If a security risk is found, follow the steps in the Repair Wizard to fix it. STEP 4 Test your Internet connection 1 Start Internet Explorer 2 Try to go to any Internet page. If you can connect to the Internet, you have fixed your Internet connection problem. If you cannot connect to the Internet, click the "What if this didn't work?" link that follows this step. What if this didn't work? If you still cannot connect to the Internet, please contact Technical Support at 1-866-PPC-MBRS. A. For additional support on your Norton software, please refer to the Symantec Technical Support website, http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/support/selectproduct_ts.jsp A. 1 On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Settings > Control Panel. 2 Click Add or Remove Programs. 3 Click Norton AntiVirus™ Online. 4 Click Remove. 5 Click Remove All. 6 Click Next and follow the instructions. If you have files that are quarantined you will be asked if you want to delete them. 7 Click Restart Windows Now (recommended) and then click Finish. Norton AntiVirus™ Online is not fully removed until you restart your computer. STEP 2 Reinstall Norton AntiVirus™ Online 2007 from the CD mailed to you when you first signed up. If you need a replacement CD please call Customer Service at 1-866-PPC-MBRS (1-866-772-6277). 1 Insert the CD into the drive. 2 Click Install Product Name, where Product Name is the name of your Norton product. 3 Follow the on-screen instructions. A. Q. A. Fix incorrect registry settings that can cause this problem Warning: In the next steps you will edit the Windows registry. Back up the registry before you make any changes to it, because incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Delete only the specified registry key. For instructions, read Backing up the Windows registry. 1 Exit all programs. 2 Click Start > Run. 3 In the Open box, type the following text: regedit 4 Click OK. 5 Go to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup 6 In the right pane, if it is there, click the following value to select it: AuditInProgress 7 Press Delete. 8 Click Yes to confirm the deletion. 9 Go to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion 10 In the right pane, if it is there, click the following value to select it: AuditInProgress 11 Press Delete. 12 Click Yes to confirm the deletion. 13 Exit the Registry Editor. 14 Restart the computer. STEP 2 Turn on Norton files that have been turned off Run a tool to turn on critical Norton startup files. RUN IT NOW A. Run LiveUpdate Run a tool to download the latest updates and virus definitions. RUN IT NOW Follow the on-screen instructions. Continue to run LiveUpdate until you see that no more updates are available. A. Before you begin: 1 Make sure that your computer has the necessary system requirements. Windows® XP Home Edition/Professional 300 MHz or higher processor 256MB RAM 150MB of available hard disk space 2 Remove any other antivirus programs that you currently have installed using Add/Remove programs in the control panel. 3 Make sure that you can connect to the Internet, then close that window. 4 Close all open programs on your computer. DOWNLOAD Save the file to the Windows desktop. 2 On the Windows desktop, double-click CleanDownload.exe. 3 Click OK, when you get the message that "Download cleanup is complete, please re-download your Norton product." STEP 2 Re-download your Norton product 1 Go to My Account 2 Download your Norton product from this page For additional support on your Norton software, please refer to the Symantec Technical Support website, http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/support/selectproduct_ts.jsp A. Run LiveUpdate This solution requires that you use Internet Explorer. If this page is open in any other Web browser, open it in Internet Explorer. 1 Run a tool to start LiveUpdate. RUN IT NOW 2 Run LiveUpdate again until you see the message that all products are up-to-date. Do you want to run LiveUpdate from your Norton product? LEARN HOW Download and run Intelligent Updater This solution requires that you use Internet Explorer. If this page is open in any other Web browser, open it in Internet Explorer. STEP 1 Configure your firewall Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) Note If you upgraded to Windows XP Service Pack 2, you have Windows Firewall, which is described in the next section. If you also have Norton 2005 programs or the latest Norton 2004 program updates, and you choose to let Norton AntiVirus protect your computer, then Norton AntiVirus is automatically configured to work with the firewall. 1 Click Start > Control Panel. 2 Double-click Network Connections. 3 Right-click your Internet connection, and then click Properties. 4 On the tabs, click Advanced. 5 Click Settings. 6 Ensure that the following entries are checked: FTP Server Internet Mail Server (SMTP) Post-Office Protocol Version 3 (POP3) Secure Web Server (HTTPS) Web Server (HTTP) 7 Click OK. 8 Restart the computer. Windows Firewall 1 Click Start > Control Panel. 2 Double-click Windows Firewall. 3 On the Exceptions tab, click Add Program. 4 In the Add a Program dialog box, click LiveUpdate-Norton AntiVirus. 5 Click OK. 6 Click OK to close the program. McAfee Firewall 1 Start McAfee Firewall. 2 Under the Tasks heading, click Configuration Assistant. 3 In the Configuration Assistant Wizard, click Next until you see the Control Internet Programs panel. 4 Click Search All Drives. After the program locates all Internet-enabled programs, check all Norton AntiVirus, LiveUpdate and Symantec entries. The full list of Norton AntiVirus and Symantec shared program names is provided in the "Manual configuration information" section at the end of this page. 5 Click Next until you see the panel with the Finish button, and then click Finish. Outpost Personal Firewall 1 Start Outpost Personal Firewall. 2 Click Options and Application. 3 Click Trusted Applications to select it. 4 Click Add, and specify the executable file for a Norton AntiVirus, LiveUpdate or Symantec shared application. Repeat this process for all Norton AntiVirus, LiveUpdate or Symantec applications. The full list of Norton AntiVirus and Symantec shared program names is provided in the "Manual configuration information" section at the end of this page. 5 When you have finished, click OK. Sygate Personal Firewall 1 Start Sygate Personal Firewall. 2 Click Applications, and then select all Norton AntiVirus, LiveUpdate, and Symantec shared applications to give the files full access to the Internet. The full list of Norton AntiVirus and Symantec shared program names is provided in the "Manual configuration information" section at the end of this page. 3 If some of the Norton AntiVirus, LiveUpdate, or Symantec applications do not appear in the list, then consult your Sygate Personal Firewall documentation for instructions on how to add additional firewall rules. 4 When you have finished, click OK. For more information, consult your user's manual or contact Sygate Technical Support. Tiny Personal Firewall 1 Start Tiny Personal Firewall. 2 In the left pane, click Windows Security. If you are not in Advanced Mode, press Ctrl+F8 to enter Advanced Mode. 3 Under Application groups, click Unrestricted Applications (do not uncheck it). Make sure that all of the Norton AntiVirus and Symantec shared applications are added to the list. The full list of Norton AntiVirus and Symantec shared program names is provided in the "Manual configuration information" section at the end of this page. ZoneAlarm 1 Start ZoneAlarm. 2 In the left column, click Program Control. 4 On the Programs tab, make sure that all of the individual Norton AntiVirus and Symantec shared applications have a green check beside them. The full list of Norton AntiVirus and Symantec shared program names is provided in the "Manual configuration information" section at the end of this page. For more information, consult your user's manual or contact ZoneAlarm Technical Support. A. Download and run Intelligent Updater. Run a tool to update your virus definitions. RUN IT NOW Do you want to download the Intelligent Updater definitions manually? LEARN HOW A. Download and run Intelligent Updater for Windows XP/2000/Me/98 Download and run Intelligent Updater. RUN IT NOW STEP 2 Restart your computer in Safe mode and run a virus scan 1 Restart the computer. 2 As soon as the computer starts, tap the F8 key about once per second until you see the Windows Advanced Options menu. If you tap the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. If this happens, restart the computer and try again. 3 Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select Safe mode, and then press Enter. Log on as administrator if you have the option to do so. 4 At the next screen, click Yes. 5 Click Start > Run. 6 In the Run dialog box, type the following text: navw32 /L 7 Click OK to start a virus scan. 8 Depending on the results of the scan, do one of the following: The scan detected a virus

Check that the Quarantine folder exists 1 If the error message appears, click OK to close it. 2 Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer. 3 Look for the Quarantine folder for your Norton program version: For Norton AntiVirus, look for C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine 4 Do one of the following, depending on whether the folder exists or not: If the Quarantine folder exists, skip to STEP 3. If the Quarantine folder does not exist, then make sure that the Norton AntiVirus folder is open and continue with line 5 5 On the File menu, click New > Folder. 6 Type the following folder name: Quarantine 7 Press Enter. STEP 2 Check that the Incoming and Portal folders exist 1 Open the Quarantine folder for your Norton program version: For Norton AntiVirus, open C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine You should see the two folders, Portal and Incoming, listed under the Quarantine folder. 2 Do one of the following, depending on whether the folders exist or not: If the folders exist, skip to STEP 4. If the folders do not exist, then continue with line 4. 3 On the File menu, click New > Folder. 4 Type the following folder name: Incoming 5 Press Enter. 6 On the File menu, click New > Folder. 7 Type the following folder name: Portal 8 Press Enter. 9 Exit Windows Explorer. 10 Restart the computer. 11 If the problem persists, go to STEP 3 STEP 3 Uninstall and reinstall your Norton product 1 Click Start > Control Panel. 2 In the Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs. 3 In the list of installed programs, click the Norton product that you want to uninstall, and then click Change or Remove. 4 Click Remove All to confirm that you want to uninstall the product. 5 If you have files in Norton Quarantine, click Yes to delete the quarantined files from your computer. 6 Click Next to confirm that you want to uninstall the product. 7 Click Restart Now. Your Norton product is not fully uninstalled until you restart your computer. 8 Click Finish. 9 After the computer restarts, reinstall your Norton program. RAM (Random Access Memory) and processor speed are two key system requirements that can affect system performance. Make sure that your computer meets the following system requirements: * 150 MB free disk space * 256 MB RAM * 300-MHz CPU * Internet Explorer 6.0 or later STEP 2 - Run LiveUpdate 1. Start Norton 360. 2. Click Tasks. 3. Click Check for Updates. 4. After the Liveupdate session is complete, restart the computer. STEP 3 - Run a Comprehensive Check scan 1. Start Norton 360. 2. Click Tasks. 3. Click Run Scans. 4. Click Comprehensive Check. 5. Click Go. If a threat is found, follow the steps in the threat alert to repair or remove the threat. A. 1. Your activation PIN was emailed to your PeoplePC email address when you purchased it. In addition, it is included on the sleeve of the Norton software CD mailed to your address on file. STEP 2 - Make sure that you enter the product key correctly 1. Type your activation PIN again, exactly as it appears on the back of your CD sleeve or in the confirmation email from PeoplePC. The activation PIN contains 13 alphanumeric characters. Example: 3KOBM2E7WSD9N A. 1. Start Norton 360. 2. In the program interface, click Continue. If the problem persists, go to Step 3. STEP 2 - Access Norton 360 Support to automatically fix this problem 1. Start Norton 360. 2. In the top-right corner, click Support. 3. Click Begin Support Session. Norton 360 Support will try to detect and fix any problem with Norton 360. 4. Restart the computer. If the issues persists, go to Step 2. STEP 3 - Start Symantec services 1. Click Start > Run. 2. In the Run dialog box, type the following text: services.msc 3. Click OK. 4. In the Services dialog box, in the Name column, locate and double-click Symantec Core LC. 5. To the right of Startup type, verify that Manual appears. If Startup type is not Manual, then in the drop-down list click Manual. 6. To the right of Service Status, verify that Started appears. If the Service status is not Started, then click Start. 7. Click OK. STEP 4 - Run LiveUpdate 1. Start Norton 360. 2. Click Tasks. 3. Click Check for Updates. | |
