Importing Contacts
Which email programs can I import contacts from?
PeoplePC's Simple Switch can import contacts directly from Outlook Express or Windows Mail (Microsoft Vista only).
What if I have contacts in another email program other than Outlook Express or Windows Mail?
If you have contacts in an email program other than Outlook Express or Windows Mail (Microsoft Vista only), you can still import that information but you will have to do it manually. Go to your email program and follow the instructions for exporting your contacts in the CSV format. AOL/AIM, Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, and most other programs support this format. Then go to your PeoplePC Web Mail address book and select the Import Address Book link.
A comma-separated values (CSV) file is a way of formatting data where each piece of information is separated by a comma. This is a popular format for transferring information from one application to another, because most of them are able to import and export comma-separated data.
For example, data represented in comma-separated format looks something like the following. Each column value is separated by a comma from the next column’s value and each row starts a new line:
Doe, John, john.doe@mail.com
Rogers, Sarah, sarah101@mail.com
Smith, Jane, jsmith@peoplepc.com
What if I want to import my contacts later?
You can run PeoplePC’s Simple Switch at any time. You can even run it again later to import more contacts
What if I just want to import my contacts?
If you want, you can just import your contacts then exit the program without sending an email to let your contacts know about your new PeoplePC email address.
Do I have to use PeoplePC's Simple Switch to import contacts into my Web Mail Address Book?
You do not have to use PeoplePC's Simple Switch to import contacts into your Web Mail Address Book. You can go directly to the Web Mail Address Book and add your contacts manually.
What if I want to import a contact that already exists in the Web Mail Address Book?
PeoplePC’s Simple Switch will check each contact being imported against what already exists in your Web Mail Address Book. If a contact to be imported has the same name or email address as an existing contact, then you will have the following three choices:
- Keep both the new contact being imported and my current Web Mail contact. Create separate entries for both.
- Keep only my current Web Mail contact and ignore the new contact being imported.
- Keep only the new contact being imported and replace the current Web Mail contact.
If you choose to keep both the new contact being imported and the current Web Mail contact, Simple Switch will give the imported contact a different display name in Web Mail so that you can tell them apart. The display name in Web Mail will have “duplicated created on <date>” appended to it.
What if I want to import a contact that doesn't fit in the Web Mail Address Book?
Web Mail can only accommodate 3 email addresses per contact, if there are more than 3 email addresses in the Outlook Express contact then another Web Mail contact with the same info will be created to accommodate the extra email addresses. The additional Web Mail contact will contain the default email address and the extra email addresses. The display name of the additional Web Mail contact will be preceded by "Extra Email Accounts Number ##".
