The minimum system requirements for installing and running PeoplePal are:

Why is it asking if I want to install and run PeoplePal?
A.
Your security settings are set so that you are prompted before any programs are installed on your machine. The dialog box you see is asking you to confirm that you do want to install the PeoplePal Toolbar. Click "Yes" to proceed.

I installed PeoplePal, but I don't see it.
A.
From the Internet Explorer menu, click View and then Toolbars. Select "PeoplePal Toolbar" from the list to turn it on.

It is also possible that PeoplePal is on the same line as another toolbar in your Internet Explorer browser. Click on the separator (the thin vertical bar) to the left of the PeoplePC Online button and drag the toolbar down to its own line.

How can I learn when a new version of PeoplePal is available?

PeoplePal automatically updates itself when a new version is available. We'll let you know about the updates we're making so you can start using the new features as soon as possible.

How do I uninstall PeoplePal?
A.
It is possible to hide or move PeoplePal so that it doesn't take up as much space in your browser bar without uninstalling the software.

To hide PeoplePal, click "View" in the Internet Explorer menu. Select "Toolbars" and highlight "PeoplePal Toolbar." To display PeoplePal, follow the same directions. A checkmark next to PeoplePal Toolbar means that the toolbar is on; no checkmark indicates that the toolbar is off.

To move PeoplePal, click on the separator (the thin vertical bar) to the left of the PeoplePC Online button and move the toolbar around the top of your Internet Explorer window.

To uninstall PeoplePal, click the Windows "Start" button and select "Settings." Open the "Control Panel" folder and select "Add/Remove Programs." Highlight "PeoplePal Toolbar" in the list of programs and click "Add/Remove." By uninstalling PeoplePal, please note that you will be removing Pop-up Blocker and the toolbar's other features from your computer.

Please note: Microsoft is releasing an update to Windows called Service Pack 2 to help protect your computer from viruses, worms, etc. Service Pack 2 is not compatible with the old PeoplePal, and will cause Internet Explorer to stop working. If you do not have PeoplePal Version 7.0 (that includes Pop-up Blocker), click here to download it now.

How do I customize PeoplePal?
A.
Click the "PeoplePC Online" button on the left side of PeoplePal and select "PeoplePal Settings" from the drop-down menu. Customize PeoplePal to make it work for you -- add and remove selected buttons, choose what email program is launched when you click the "Mail button," choose the size of the search field and select how many searches you want PeoplePal to save, and customize Pop-up Blocker.

I'm not seeing all of the buttons that I selected to appear on PeoplePal - where did they go?
A.
If you're displaying a lot of buttons with text labels on a lower resolution screen, some of the buttons may run-off the end of the browser window. Click on the arrow on the right hand side of PeoplePal to see the additional buttons. To change the button display to icons only and add/remove buttons, click the "PeoplePC Online" button on the left side of PeoplePal and select "PeoplePal Settings" from the drop-down menu.

How do I move PeoplePal?
A.
To move PeoplePal, click "View" and select "Toolbars" to make sure that "Lock the Toolbars" is not checked. Then, click on the separator (the thin vertical bar) to the left of the PeoplePC Online button and move the toolbar around the top of your Internet Explorer window.

More than one toolbar can be placed on the same line if you want to conserve space in your browser window. Please note, like all Internet Explorer toolbars, PeoplePal can only be placed at the top of your browser window; it cannot be placed on the side or bottom of your browser window.

Can I check my PeoplePC Online email and write new messages even when I'm browsing the web?
A.
Yes - you choose what email program is launched when you click the PeoplePal's "Mail button." You can also start a new email message through Outlook Express or Web Mail, add a new contact to your address book, and change your spam controls right from PeoplePal.

Does PeoplePal have a "drag and drop" feature?
A.
Yes, you can highlight any word on a web page or in one of your documents and drag it to the search box on PeoplePal. Hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard or the "Search" button on PeoplePal to run your search.

How do I clear my search history?
A.
You can clear your search history from PeoplePal and Internet Explorer. To clear your search history from PeoplePal, click the "PeoplePC Online" button on the left side of PeoplePal and select "PeoplePal Settings" from the drop-down menu. Then click the "Clear Search History" button in the Search Options area at the bottom of the window. You can also delete individual entries from your search history by highlighting a previous search in the search drop-down menu and clicking the "Delete" button.

To clear your search history from Internet Explorer, click "Tools" from your Internet Explorer browser window and select "Internet Options...". On the "General" tab, click "Clear History" in the History area at the bottom of the window. To disable the history function, change the "Days to keep pages in history" to 0 (zero.)

Pop-Up Blocker is a feature of PeoplePal that blocks unwanted pop-up windows. Pop-Up Blocker will stop windows that try to open automatically such as pop-up and pop-under ads and windows that open after a page loads or when you leave a web site

Pop-up Blocker allows windows from sites that you add to your allow list and links that open in new windows when you hold the CTRL key or double-click the link to override Pop-up Blocker.

What doesn't Pop-up Blocker prevent?

Pop-up Blocker doesn't prevent Instant messaging windows, Flash or DHTML windows within your Internet Explorer browser, or windows that open because of software or ad-ware on your computer.

How do I turn Pop-up Blocker on and off?

Pop-up Blocker is turned on by default when you install PeoplePal. You can turn it on and off by clicking the Pop-up Blocker button and selecting "Turn Pop-up Blocker ON" or "Turn Pop-up Blocker OFF" from the drop-down menu.

How do I know when a pop-up window has been blocked?
A.
When a pop-up window has been blocked, you will see the mouse cursor flash from an arrow to the red and white hand icon, and a sound will be played. To customize these settings, click the "Pop-up Blocker" button and select "Pop-up Blocker Settings" from the drop-down menu. You can see the number of pop-ups that have been blocked in your current Internet session and the total number of pop-ups that have been blocked in the Pop-up Blocker drop-down menu.

What if I want to see something that is getting blocked?
A.
There are four ways to see something that Pop-up Blocker is blocking:
  1. Turn off Pop-up Blocker by clicking the "Pop-up Blocker" button and selecting "Turn Pop-up Blocker OFF."
  2. Press and hold the CTRL key while clicking a link.
  3. Double-click the link to open the pop-up window.
  4. Add the source of the pop-up window to your Allowed list. You can do this by clicking the "Pop-up Blocker" button and highlighting "Always allow pop-ups from www.website.com" ("www.website.com" will be the name of the web site that you're currently viewing). You can also click "Pop-up Blocker Settings" in the "Pop-up Blocker" button drop-down menu to add web sites to your Allow list.

Can I see the pop-ups that have been blocked?

No, Pop-up Blocker does not keep track of the pop-ups that have been blocked. To see a pop-up that has just been blocked, turn Pop-up Blocker off and refresh the web page you are viewing. You can also hold down the CTRL key or double-click the link you're trying to view while Pop-up Blocker is on.

Why am I still seeing pop-ups even though Pop-up Blocker is on?
A.
Click "Pop-up Blocker Settings" in the "Pop-up Blocker" drop-down menu to confirm that you haven't added a web site to your Allow list from which you don't want to see pop-ups and that "Display pop-up errors" is not checked. There are also certain kinds of windows that Pop-up Blocker does not stop including important messages from PeoplePC, Instant messaging windows, Flash or DHTML windows within your Internet Explorer browser, and windows that open because of software or ad-ware on your computer.
